Manthey Racing Builds World’s Fastest 911 GT3 RS

At the Essen Motor Show, Manthey-Racing already presented a very special vehicle to visitors on the Preview Day on Friday. The company from Meuspath in Rhineland-Palatinate has developed a sports car with the new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup MR, which will be in long-distance racing from next year is used. At the traditional 24-hour race at the Nürburgring, Manthey-Racing impressed with its predecessor this year and celebrated a class victory. The new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup MR is based on the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, which was launched in 2017 for the Porsche one-make cups.

The “Cup MR” presents itself with a modified aerodynamics package with more total output. Together with the twelve-way adjustable ABS system and the wider wheelbase, this results in a long-distance-capable drivability and increased braking performance. Visually, the vehicle mainly characterizes vents on the fenders as well as in the bonnet and xenon headlights with programmable LED spots. A variety of elements such as front bumper, bonnet, fenders, side skirts or engine cover and rear wing are also made of the extremely lightweight carbon fiber fabric carbon. These changes make the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup MR ideal for use on the long haul. Equipped with a 4-liter six-cylinder boxer engine and state-of-the-art racing technology, the vehicle has an output of 485 hp. Optionally, Manthey-Racing offers long-range accessories such as Endurance Harness or Air Conditioning.

The new vehicle of Manthey-Racing GmbH will be exhibited at the Essen Motor Show from 2 to 10 December. Staff members of the company will be informing visitors in Hall 3, booth A101, about the innovations in the new racing car. Manthey Racing also presents ready-to-race products such as boxing gear or hydration systems for racing. Around 500 exhibitors and over 300,000 expected visitors turn Messe Essen into a Mecca for motorsport fans. The first Essen Motor Show was held in 1968 and developed into the largest European stage for sporty vehicles. This year, the auto show is entering its 50th round. Singer Vehicle Design Builds 500HP Porsche 911

Immediately upon its introduction in 1989, the 964 was seen as Porsche taking the 911 in a new direction. It was unveiled in all-wheel drive form, traded torsion bars for springs and shocks, smoothed its bumpers, and gave the model anti-lock brakes and power steering for the first time and as standard features. It was also the first Porsche to feature optional Tiptronic shifting, among other innovations. The new car was still air-cooled and recognizable next to its relatives, but it represented a modernization of the 911; a refined driving experience that coupled an evolution in performance with a greater degree of build quality and driver consideration.

Come the present day almost three decades later, and the 964 is again set to be the bearer of great change in the air-cooled community, though it won’t look like it did when it was a new car. Things have changed in the time since. For instance, the 964 is widely considered a classic now, and the renderings pictured here depict a heavily modified version of a 1990 Porsche 911 with more than twice the power than the factory gave it.

What we’re seeing here is the first modified 964 to incorporate the last two years’ worth of work undertaken by Singer Vehicle Design in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering and a  team of consultants and advisors that includes such names as Norbert Singer and Hans Mezger. It began when Singer customer Scott Blattner approached the company to make something special out of his 964 with a focus on lightweight and high performance enhancements. Minimum vehicle weight is said to be 990kg (~2,180lbs).

The resulting endeavor saw Singer team up with Williams on something they’re calling a “dynamics and lightweighting study” (DLS), and the most salient outcome of this work so far is the modified Porsche flat-six under the deck lid of this Absinthe example; the car’s original M64 used 3.6 liters to churn 247 horsepower in 1990, but in Scott’s 911 it’s been enlarged to four liters even. Thanks to that extra capacity and the double overhead cam heads developed by Williams, it’s now capable of putting out 500 naturally aspirated horsepower.

Besides that screaming six, Williams also worked with Singer on the aerodynamics package of the modified Porsche, and with consultation from Norbert Singer, the resulting body and underbody have been optimized through the use of computational fluid dynamics for a blend of aesthetic and performance considerations. From the rear diffuser to the trick roof and rear window sculpting, the surface area has been almost comprehensively altered to make better use of the air flowing over and under it, and this also includes the ducktail spoiler, rear window inlets (which act as a ram-air system to feed the big air-cooled lump in the rear), oil cooler ducting in the front bumper, and the flared arches accommodating the 911’s widened track.

In addition to the stretched footprint’s contribution to its roadholding capabilities, the car’s suspension has been upgraded to shed weight, offer more adjustability, and improve the original geometry. And in order to ensure the front seat experience provided by all these mechanical modifications is up to the standards of an ultimate road and track 911, Singer worked with drivers Marino Frachitti and Chris Harris to perfect the driving dynamics alongside the dedicated team at Williams.

Each of the Porsche 911s restored and modified by Singer is based on the unique commissions of their customers, and the cars restored in this program (limited to 75) will be no different in that regard—owners will simply be selecting options from a different range of services than those available on Singer-modified cars in the past. With its own dedicated facility at the Williams campus in Oxfordshire (called “Singer at Grove”) this is a wholly separate program from their other restoration and customization services, and in that vein, Singer founder and Creative Director Rob Dickinson explains that “On a technical level, the study has been fascinating and has resulted in an incredible restoration with the benefit of top drawer resources and modern science. Artistically it has been a second chance to connect with the machine on a new level.”

From the perspective of Rob’s development partners on this project, Craig Wilson, Williams Advanced Engineering’s Managing Director, noted: “Being able to work with the classic Porsche 964, applying our expertise in aerodynamics, advanced lightweight materials and vehicle dynamics to optimise performance has been a tremendous opportunity. We are delighted that the restoration of these cars for Singer’s clients will take place here in Oxfordshire.”

The Dynamics and Lightweight Study also developed pieces of the offering with industry experts from Michelin, BBS, and Brembo for example, and Scott’s Absinthe-over-Blood-Orange car features bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, 18” forged magnesium monobloc center-lock wheels from BBS Motorsport, lightweight monobloc Brembo calipers and carbon composite rotors, custom damping by EXE-TC, and a magnesium Hewland six-speed transmission.

So this is it, this is the first look at the next level of modified Porsche 911s from the minds behind Singer. Like any restoration to come from the company that’s redefining the term, details are abundant. Inside the Buckminster Fuller-esque cabin structure for instance, is the exposed section of shift linkage underneath the knob with inlaid balsa. The interior is equal parts spartan and indulgent depending on your point of view, and details abound on the outer skin as well; just look at the arrangement of shapes and negative spaces in the taillights alone. We’re obviously excited—what do you think?

The New Porsche 911 Carrera T

With the 911 Carrera T, Porsche is reviving the puristic concept behind the 911 T of 1968: less weight, shorter transmission ratios from the manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive with mechanical rear differential lock for an enhanced performance and intense driving pleasure.

The new model’s unique appearance is based on the 911 Carrera and its engine delivers 272 kW (370 hp; Fuel consumption combined 9.5 – 8.5 l/100 km; CO2 emissions 215 – 193 g/km). The 911 Carrera T – at Porsche, “T” stands for Touring – also boasts several other equipment features that are not available for the 911 Carrera, including the PASM sports chassis as standard, lowered by 20 mm, the weight-optimised Sport Chrono Package, a shortened shift lever with red shift pattern and Sport-Tex seat centres. The rear-axle steering, which is not available for the 911 Carrera, is available as an option for the 911 Carrera T.

Every aspect of the equipment in the 911 Carrera T is designed to optimise sportiness and deliver lightweight construction: The rear window and rear side windows are made from lightweight glass and the door trims feature opening loops. The sound absorption has been largely reduced. The rear seats have been omitted along with the Porsche Communication Management (PCM), though both are still available on request at no additional cost. The result of the lightweight construction measures: At an unladen weight of 1,425 kilograms, the two-seater is 20 kilograms lighter than a 911 Carrera with comparable equipment.

A sporty design and unique appearance.

The design of the 911 Carrera T highlights the emotionality and sportiness of the coupé with rear-axle transmission. The body parts and wheels function as clear differentiating elements. At the front, the 911 Carrera T features an aerodynamically optimised front spoiler lip, and the Sport Design exterior mirrors are painted in Agate Grey Metallic. From the side, the new model is easily recognisable thanks to its 20-inch Carrera S wheels in Titan Grey. The “911 Carrera T” logos represent another distinctive feature at the side. The rear view is characterised by the slats in the rear lid grille, the Porsche logo, the “911 Carrera T” model designation in Agate Grey and the sports exhaust system provided as standard, with centrally positioned tailpipes painted in black. The exterior colour options are Black, Lava Orange, Guards Red, Racing Yellow, White and Miami Blue, as well as the metallic colours Carrara White, Jet Black and GT Silver.

A puristic interior concept and new interior package.

The appearance of the passenger compartment also has a sporty and puristic emphasis. The driver enjoys black, four-way, electric sports seats with a seat centre in Sport-Tex fabric, while the headrests feature a “911” logo stitched in black. This new Carrera T model also comes with the option to choose full bucket seats for the first time. Steering actions are completed via the GT sports steering wheel with leather rim, and the mode switch provided on the steering wheel as standard allows the driver to select different driving programmes. The shortened shift lever with shift pattern in red remains exclusive to the 911 Carrera T. The decorative trims on the dashboard and doors are black, as are the door opening loops. A new addition is the T interior package, which creates an even sportier look with the contrasting colours of Racing Yellow, Guards Red or GT Silver. These colours can be used to add visual accents on various interior components, such as the seat belts, the “911” logo on the headrests, the door opening loops or the centres of the Sport-Tex seats.

Improved weight-to-power ratio plus enhanced performance.

The six-cylinder flat engine with a displacement of three litres and twin turbocharging generates an output of 272 kW (370 hp) and a maximum torque of 450 Nm, delivering between 1,750 rpm and 5,000 rpm. The weight-to-power ratio has been improved to 3.85 kg/hp, ensuring enhanced performance and more agile driving dynamics. Thanks to a shorter rear axle ratio and mechanical differential lock, the 911 Carrera T can sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds – 0.1 seconds faster than the 911 Carrera Coupé. The model reaches the 200-km/h limit in just 15.1 seconds. Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) is also available as an option on the Carrera T, enabling the vehicle to reach 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, and 200 km/h in 14.5 seconds. Both transmission variants enable a top speed of over 290 km/h.
